Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) is the term for the approach developed from the Japanese "Kaizen" management principle. This brings about positive changes in a company by means of many small improvement steps rather than great leaps forward. The focus of attention is placed upon improving the quality of the product and process. Especial emphasis is placed here on encouraging employees to submit suggestions . The focus is however placed on developing group and team suggestions rather than on suggestions from individual employees. One can clearly see here the connection between CIP and group work / teamwork. CIP is implemented as a standardized procedure. Whereas the implementation formerly only affected the direct areas of a company (production and assembly areas), nowadays CIP is also implemented in indirect areas (sales and marketing / order processing; purchasing / procurement; development / design etc.). There is a holistic CIP approach throughout a company's entire processes.
